The Energy Fund (FUNAE) took a decisive step towards accreditation to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), with the submission of documentation on the activities carried out, thus meeting the requirements necessary to advance to the formal application phase, called Step 3 – Application and Fees.
This milestone represents a significant advance in the institutional position of the FUNAE in the international climate finance landscape. Accreditation to the GCF will enable the institution to act as a mobilising and managing entity for financial resources for the implementation of off-network electrification projects, strengthening its commitment to expanding access to clean, modern and sustainable energy in Mozambique.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of FUNAE, Isália Dimene, highlighted the progress made during the process and expressed confidence in the success of the candidacy. He said that the current Energy Act allows the implementation of power stations up to 10 MW outside the network, and this is part of the institutional strategy of extending access to energy, especially in rural and remote areas of the country.
With this step, FUNAE consolidates its role as a strategic player in promoting energy transition and strengthening national climate resilience.
