FUNAE projects 363 mini-networks over the next 10 years

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of FUNAE, Mety Gondola, took part this Wednesday in Maputo, in the panel of discussions on Business Opportunities in the Off-Network Sector, held within the framework of the European Union-Mozambique Business Forum.

On the occasion, the National Program for Acceleration of Access to Energy was presented through Mini-Networks (PROMIR), a strategic initiative that provides for the construction of 363 mini-networks throughout the country over the next 10 years, contributing to the achievement of the goal of universal access to energy in Mozambique.

Appraised at around 250 million US dollars, the programme has already secured approximately 94 million dollars for the start of its implementation. The PROMIR is led by the Government of Mozambique, which made available 60 million dollars from public funds, also with the support of international cooperation partners, including the European Union, the World Bank, the German Development Bank (KfW), Sweden and Belgium.

During the presentation, the Partnership Agreement between the Government of Mozambique and ENABEL – Belgian Agency for International Cooperation was also highlighted, through which a subsidiary agreement valued at around $50 million will be signed to accelerate the expansion of mini-networks and the electrification of communities located in areas outside the national power grid.

In his speech, Mety Gondola stressed that the sector outside the network continues to represent an important opportunity for private investment, highlighting areas with high growth potential, namely the Productive Use of Energy, Clean Kitchen Solutions and Veicular Natural Gas.

The implementation of the PROMIR reinforces the commitment of the Government and its partners to promoting sustainable access to energy, contributing to the socio-economic development of communities and improving the living conditions of the Mozambican population.
