It was formally launched Wednesday (01/04/26), in the city of Tete, the Construction Project of the Photovoltaic Center in Nkantha Village, in the District of Chifunde, Tete province, whose conclusion is scheduled for a period of eight months.
The project to be implemented by the FUNAE is the result of an agreement signed in February this year between the Government of Mozambique, represented by the Ministries of Mineral Resources and Energy and Finance, and the Government of South Korea, through the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT).
The project is funded by KIAT, which is expected to start in April.
The plant will have an installed capacity of 750 kWp and plans to link more than 1,200 families, contributing to increased access to electricity in the region and to promoting sustainable socio-economic development.
On this occasion, the Secretary of State in Tete Province, Cristina Mafumo, and the Korean Ambassador to Mozambique, Bok Won Kang, highlighted in their speeches the importance of the project for strengthening bilateral relations and for the energy transition of Mozambique.
Mafumo urged those responsible for implementing the project to comply strictly with the deadlines set, while ensuring their resilience. It also reiterated the Mozambican Government's gratitude to the South Korean Executive for the materialisation of this initiative, which will contribute to the socio-economic development of the country, in particular the locality of Nkantha.
Ambassador Bok Won Kang stressed that the implementation of the project will enable local communities to benefit from more stable access to electricity, which will have a positive impact on education, health and economic activities. It added that Korea will continue to expand cooperation with Mozambique with a view to sustainable development and mutual prosperity.
This project reinforces Mozambique's commitment to diversify its energy matrix, expand access to clean and sustainable energy and boost community development.
